How GLP-1
Therapies Work

A closer look at how these medications interact with appetite, metabolism and digestion

What Are GLP-1 Medications?

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists are compounds studied for their role in:

GLP-1 Appetite Regulation

Appetite Regulation

GLP-1 medications are studied for their role in supporting appetite awareness and helping individuals better understand hunger signals throughout the day.

GLP-1 Blood Sugar Balance

Blood Sugar Balance

These compounds are researched for their influence on glucose regulation, which plays an important role in overall metabolic health.

GLP-1 Gastric Emptying

Gastric Emptying

GLP-1 therapies may slow how quickly food leaves the stomach, which can impact how full someone feels after eating.

They are also studied for their broader role in supporting metabolic processes tied to energy use and weight management.

These mechanisms are why GLP-1–based therapies are widely researched in the context of weight management. Some individuals researching GLP-1 therapies may come across medication names such as Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Zepbound®, Rybelsus® and Mounjaro®, which are part of the broader GLP-1 category.
